Thanks to our great support network so many of our families had a better Christmas than they had anticipated.
The generosity of the staff at Deutsche Bank NZ meant that our kids received some fabulous gifts that were meant just for them!
I was lucky enough to deliver hams, food vouchers, special food treats and gifts to many of our families and can tell you it was hugely rewarding.
At some houses we were greeted with tears of gratitude from mums who didn’t know how they were going to fulfil their Santa role.
Towards the end of 2011 we matched some book groups and work organisations up with “adopt a family” idea. This is a commitment to a level of ongoing support in the way of non perishable food items and household products. So far this is going really well and if you would like to help then email me firstname.lastname@example.org and we can link you to a suitable family.
Thanks to Jacqui Cormack and her amazing team of cooks the freezer project at Starship hospital goes from strength to strength. Jacqui set this up a few years ago and has sustained keeping the freezer stocked with home cooked meals for parents in need. The child who is a patient in hospital receives a meal but the parent with them does not, many people don’t have support or an ability to provide meals for themselves in this situation so the freezer project is fantastic. The charge nurse on each ward uses discretion as to who could do with meals.
